Belden Brick transfer car project

This was a very unique project.  The Belden Brick Co. is a world leader and producer of bricks.  We had a brief tour & the QUALITY standards are some of the highest set in the industry.  The employees & management all take their jobs very seriously to ensure each brick produced is of the "BEST" quality.

The Beldon Brick Co. Plant #4 located in Sugar Creek, Ohio is a very historic plant unlike Beldens other plants that are highly automated. Plant #4 has 20 operating BEEHIVE style kilns still in operation.  The plant was built in 1927.  Originally the plant had its own underground coal mine that mined the coal to fuel the beehive kilns.  The plant also had its own quarry on the north side which utilized a 24" narrow gauge railway to haul the clay from the pit to the plant.

The brick transfer cars are operated by an overhead D.C. wire. The purpose of the cars is to transfer the bricks from the dryers to the kilns.  Ohio Vintage Coal is going to utilize this car to transfer our collection of 24" locomotives throughout our proposed storage building.

The Belden Brick Co. was gracious enough to donate one these cars to Ohio Vintage Coal Co.

We would like to thank everyone that helped on this project from Belden Family, Bill, Harry to the forklift operators & all the people behind the scenes to make this project happen.
