Jeffrey Manufacturing Company
Jeffrey Mine Locomotives
The Jeffrey family invested in 1876 money into a coal cutting machine from that point on the mining line began its natural diversification to anything imaginable to help mechanize the coal industry. The Jeffrey Manufacturing Company was one of the first companies to apply electric motors to industrial machinery in 1887. Please keep in mind that all the other manufactures relied on General Electric or Westinghouse products to build their locomotives. Jeffrey realized to compete against these powerhouse companies that they had to produce their own line of traction motor & electric components. The Jeffrey Manufacturing Company was almost tied with General Electric with mine locomotive sales. The Jeffrey Manufacturing Company was the #1 producer for equipment in the coal mine industry.
